Physical activities that focus on strength are important for everyday life.
Think about how many everyday activities you do that use strength -- walking up the stairs, carrying bags of groceries, picking up kids, and more! Keep those muscles strong by doing strength activities at least two days per week.
No equipment necessary!
Many strength activities can be done using your own body weight or items you have around the house, such as cans of soup and a chair.

If you want to get started now, check out the Go4Life program from the National Institutes of Health. Their exercises are appropriate for most adults! You can use canned goods or filled water bottles in place of hand weights.
