While it’s important to exercise often, it can be tough during hot weather. Follow these tips to stay sun safe.
- Avoid outdoor exercise in peak hours. Instead try to get any outdoor exercise in the morning or early evening when it has cooled down.
- Drink more water than you think you need and don’t wait until you feel thirsty.
- Choose indoor exercise when you can. If you don’t have access to a gym, indoor malls are always air-conditioned and a great place to walk.
- Try doing a home workout! If you don’t have equipment, you can get a good workout by swapping with these common household items.
- Wear loose-fitting clothing and sunscreen when outside.
- Watch out for signs of muscle cramping, nausea, headache, or dizziness. These might be signs of heat-related illness.
- People aged 65 and older are at higher risk for heat-related illnesses. Always talk to your doctor first about exercising outdoors.
