“Screen Free Week” is the first week of May each year. Screens can be very useful. (Afterall, where else can you find all the amazing Eat. Move. Save. Resources?) But like all things in life, it’s good to find a balance. Spending too much time on screens can take away from other things that are important for your health and wellbeing, like spending time and talking together, moving your body, and even getting a good night’s sleep. Here’s a list of 20 things you can do to celebrate “Screen-Free Week” this week and every week while you Eat, Move, and Save!:
- Cook a meal together.
- Go to the park.
- Do chair yoga.
- Have a dance party.
- Plant a vegetable garden.
- Take a picnic in the park, the yard, or even in your living room.
- Go bird watching and count how many different ones you can see or hear.
- Check out some cookbooks from the library and try a new dish.
- Do a scavenger hunt.
- Write out some recipe cards to give as gifts.
- Plan your meals for the week and write a grocery list.
- Take a hike.
- Listen to some music, a podcast, or audio book.
- Go for a bike ride.
- Spend some time coloring or drawing with your kids, friends, or by yourself.
- Pick out some fruits or vegetables that you’ve never tried before and have a tasting party.
- Organize your pantry and clean your fridge.
- Bake some banana or zucchini bread and share with a friend.
- Play a yard game with your kids, grand-kids, or friends.
- Go to a free cooking or fitness class.
Try to make some time this week or any week to go screen-free. It’s good for your body and mind to take a break sometimes. But don’t worry, you can always find us on our website when you come back.
